As the winter season approaches, so too does the possibility for cottages in the area to fall victim to break and enters.
Because cottages are usually isolated over the winter months, they make for easy targets warns the Yarmouth rural RCMP detachment.
But the RCMP say even though you might not be visiting your cottage as frequently as you do in the spring or summer months, there are ways you can protect it. The RCMP offer the following tips to cottage owners.
Install an alarm and motion sensor lights outside. You may also want to consider installing a video camera.
Ensure all doors and windows are locked and secure. Have curtains or blinds on your windows. If there are neighbours, ask them to keep an eye on your cottage. You may also consider installing a gate on the driveway, or installing bars in the windors and doors.
The RCMP also advise people not to leave valuables inside their unattended cottages over the winter months.
