A youth who stole a car and drove off from the Waterville jail Dec. 23 was still at large Dec. 29.

The 17-year-old “had earned the right” to work without direct supervision of Nova Scotia Youth Centre staff, accoring to Department of Justice spokeswoman Mary Jane Webber, and was working on the site’s property with an outside construction crew on an out-building. He stole a construction worker’s car, as the keys had been left in it, and fled.

RCMP are leading the search for him, Webber says, and “all points” are looking for him.

The youth cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, nor can his home community as it could identify him; but he was in custody on theft-related offences.
