”What a mess,” says Peter Davies as he describes the garbage dumped at the Anglican Church Cemetery off Bog Rd.

The church found 29 bags of garbage dumped on their property, which Davies says was just household waste that normally goes on the curb. “We keep the cemetery open for people to go in,” he says. This is the first problem the church has had since opening the cemetery on a full time basis. It used to be closed at night and on weekends after someone took an ATV in and tore up the yard a few years ago. The church reopened the cemetery this summer at the request of the public.

Davies can’t understand why they would pick their cemetery to dump the garbage. “It was closer to going out to the dump I guess.”

By-law officers found evidence that linked the garbage with an individual, and that person was ticketed. A court date had not been set at deadline.

Davies thinks part of the problem may be from rejected garbage. “One of the problems you have is when people get (rejection stickers) put on their garbage, they just find somewhere else to dump it,” he says.

However he doesn’t know how it could be done differently.

Davies says he will be in court the day the person is scheduled to face charges. “I would like to sit in the back of the room and find out who the heck this person is and why?”
