Probation, restitution for breach

Judge Alan Tufts suspended sentencing on Centreville resident Robert Douglas Hawley, Jr., 29, on a conviction of breaching probation and imposed a term of six months’ probation on him.

Hawley committed the breach in Kentville between Oct. 11, 2006 and Oct. 10, 2007, when he failed to pay $973.55 in restitution.

Payment of the restitution is a condition of the new probation order. Hawley pleaded guilty to the breach Dec. 18.

Fined for theft, breach

Windemere resident Randy Michael Salsman, 25, pleaded guilty April 7 to theft from a hardware store and to failing to comply with a probation order.

Judge Tufts fined Salsman $50 for each of the convictions. Salsman committed the offenses in Berwick Feb. 20.

Breach results in fine

Aylesford resident Joel Patrick Hughes, 22, pleaded guilty April 7 to failing to comply with probation conditions.

Judge Tufts fined Hughes $400 plus a $60 victim surcharge, or seven days in custody on willful default.

Hughes committed the breach in Greenwood March 9.

Fine for breach

Wolfville resident Donald Jacob Briggs, 19, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a probation order.

Judge Tufts fined Briggs $300 plus a $45, or five days in custody on willful default.

Briggs committed the breach in New Minas March 1.

Failed probation order

Kingston resident Christopher Michael Tucker, 24, pleaded guilty April 7 to failing to comply with a probation order.

Judge Tufts fined him $200 or three days in custody on willful default.

Tucker committed the breach in Kentville March 1.

Breached probation conditions

Woodville resident Kirby Miles John Ward, 19, pleaded guilty April 9 to failing to comply with a probation order.

Judge Claudine MacDonald fined Ward $200 plus a $30 victim surcharge, or three days in custody on willful default.

Ward committed the breach in Coldbrook July 31, 1007.

Shoplifted

Kentville resident Gant William Clyde Lockhart, 54, pleaded guilty April 9 to theft from a New Minas store.

Judge MacDonald fined Lockhart $100 plus a $15 victim surcharge, or one day in custody on willful default. Lockhart committed the theft April 20, 2007.

Drove while privilege revoked

Waterville resident Adam Eugene Bruce, 25, pleaded guilty April 7 to driving while his privilege of obtaining a license was revoked, contrary to the MVA.

Judge Tufts fined Bruce $750. Bruce committed the offense in Kentville Nov. 30, 2007.

Granted conditional discharges

Judge Tufts granted a conditional discharge April 7 to Waterville resident Deborah Darlene Carnell, 47, on a charge of assault.

The discharge is pending four months’ reporting probation, the conditions of which include Carnell taking any recommended assessment, counselling or treatment; and her refraining form possessing or consuming alcoholic beverages.

The charge stemmed from an incident in Waterville Dec. 28. Carnell pleaded guilty to the charge April 7. --

Kingston resident Dustin James Tupper, 18, received a conditional discharge from Judge Tufts April 7 on charges of possession of property known to have been illegally obtained and failing to attend court as ordered.

The discharge is pending three months’ probation and a $200 charitable donation to West Kings High School.

The charges resulted from incidents in Kentville Sept. 4, 2007, and Feb. 11, 2008, respectively.

Tupper pleaded guilty to the charges March 25. --

Judge Tufts granted a conditional discharge April 10 to Kentville resident Donald Kevin Conrad, 49, on a charge of committing mischief. The discharge is pending one month reporting probation, during which Conrad is to make a $300 charitable donation to the Red Door.

The charge stemmed from an incident in Kentville July 31, when a vehicle windshield was damaged. The court found Conrad guilty of the charge Dec. 19.

Convicted automatically

Judge Tufts convicted automatically Aylesford resident Jason James Garrison, 19, of driving while his privilege of obtaining a license was suspended, contrary to the MVA, and fined him $500.

Police laid the charge in Berwick March 1. --

Judge MacDonald convicted automatically Hubley resident Travis Matthew Kays, 32, of illegal possession of liquor, contrary to the Nova Scotia Liquor Control Act, and fined him $300 plus a $45 victim surcharge and $107 costs. Police laid the charge in Wolfville Oct. 14.

Kays failed to turn up for his April 9 court appearance and was therefore automatically convicted.
