Probation for sexual assault, breach

A Brooklyn man has received a term of probation for sexual assault and breaching an undertaking.

In Windsor provincial court Monday, Nov. 26, Judge Alan Tufts suspended sentencing on Michael Paul Gallie, 34, on the sexual assault and failing to comply with an undertaking convictions and imposed a term of 15 months of reporting probation.

The judge instructed Gallie to provide a DNA sample to Corrections officials and ordered him to be placed on the Sex Offenders Registry.

Probationary conditions include that Gallie take any recommended assessment, counselling or treatment; have no contact with the assault victim; have no unsupervised contact with females under 18 years of age, except relatives; and keep at least 50 feet away from group residences of females under 18.

Gallie committed the sexual assault in Brooklyn March 5-6, 2006 and the undertaking breach in Halifax Jan. 4, 2007 when he had contact with a female under 18.

Gallie pleaded guilty to the offenses Sept. 17.

Fines, probation, day deemed served

Mount Uniacke resident Kris Michael Buttar, 28, pleaded guilty Nov. 26 to resisting a police officer in execution of duties.

Judge Alan Tufts fined Buttar $100 and imposed a term of nine months’ non-reporting probation, conditions of which include that the accused abstain from possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages and/or non-medically prescribed drugs.

Buttar committed the offense in Red Deer, Alberta March 23.

Judge Tufts also sentenced Buttar to one day in custody, deemed served by his court appearance, for break and entry at a dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offense, and for failing to comply with a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

He also fined Buttar $100 for stealing a snowboard and $50 for failing a probation order to report to probation officials.

Buttar committed the snowboard theft at Martock, Feb. 2, 2002; the break-in and breach in Dartmouth Sept 10, 2002; and the reporting breach in Windsor Sept. 1, 2002 to Jan. 16, 2003.

The accused pleaded guilty to those charges Oct. 2.

Illegally obtained

Wolfville resident Steven Wayne Legge, 34, pleaded guilty Tuesday, Nov. 27 to possession of property valued at less than $5,000 and known to have been obtained unlawfully.

Judge Tufts fined Legge $200 plus a $30 victim surcharge, or three days in custody on willful default.

Legg committed the offense in Hantsport Oct. 18.
