Young chess enthusiasts looking for board wins

A number of youth competed in the Valley regional qualifying chess tournament in Berwick February 3

Grade 7 - 1st Gold- Raphael Choquette, Ecole Rose des Vents; 2nd Silver - Randy Durling, Pine Ridge Middle School.

Grade 5 - 1st Gold - Mateo Knight, Berwick school.

Grade 4 - 1st Gold - Duncan MacLean, Cambridge Elementary.

Grade 3 - 1st Gold - Noah Brothers, Cambridge Elementary.

Grade 2 - 1st Gold - Spencer Kennie, Cambridge Elementary.

Grade 1 - 1st Gold - Lucas Dorrance, Cambridge Elementary

Grade 4 student Adam Dorrance of Cambridge Elementary automatically qualifies for the provincials as a past champion.

All of the students will now compete in the Provincial Nova Scotia Scholastic Chess Tournament March 2 in Halifax, where the winners will make up a Nova Scotia team to compete in the National Chess Tournament in Edmonton.
