Elks Edge Penguins 3-2 in Shootout; Royals Upset Ducks 5-1;

Pirates at Cumberland Postponed

At Lantz the Brookfield Elks came from behind to defeat the East Hants Penguins 3-2 in a shootout Jan. 29. The Penguins jumped into an early first-period lead when Evan Dickie scored on a power play from Tyson Aalders and Shane Robar.

The second period was scoreless with the Elks holding a slim 12-11 shot advantage for a two period total of 22-17.

The Penguins went up 2-0 when Ryan Mitchell scored an unassisted goal at 12:11 of the third period. Just 26 seconds later the Elks' Doug Armsworthy cut the lead in half, a power play goal, from Jimmy Scullion and Coady Read. With just 40 seconds remaining in the game Darcy Gillis tied the game at two from Scullion.

The overtime period was scoreless.

In the shootout the Elks held on with Ike Burgess getting the winner. Lucas Dawe and Jimmy Scullion also scored for the Elks while Tyson Aalders and Randy Gilbert scoring for the Penguins.

Brookfield improved to 14-6-6 while the Penguins dropped to 7-16-5.

At the Hants County Arena in Windsor the hometown Royals upset the Bay Ducks 5-1.

Eric Jackaman gave the Royals an early 1-0 first period lead from Bryce Hirtle and held a slim 12-10 shot advantage.

In the second the Royals broke the game wide open scoring 3 unanswered goals to take a 4-0 lead. Cody White, Brett Mosher and Tyler MacGowan all scored for the Royals. Sam Webb added a pair of assists.

In the third the teams traded goals first Jake Bullen for the Ducks then MacGowan his second goal of the night from Eric Jackaman, his third point, and Claude LaMothe.

Despite losing 5-1 the Ducks tested Windsor's goaltender Fraser Bailey several times and outshot the Royals 41-37.

The Royals improve to 11-14-1 and move ahead of the East Hants Penguins by 3 points for the last play-off spot in the Fred Fox Division. The Ducks loss was only their 6th this year and they fall to 21-6-1.

The game between the Strait Pirates at Cumberland was postponed due to weather.
