Playing on home ice at the Digby Area Arena and without almost a handful of players including co-captain Eric Cook, the Fuelers ran out of gas early in the second period.

The Lions added four goals in the frame and two more in the third period to take the game 7-0.

Fighting led to game misconducts for the Fuelers’ co-captain Tyler Robertson and the Lions’ Korey Cuvelier.

Scoring for Clare were Jacques Lombard, with a hat trick, and Maxime Wilson, Stephane LeBlanc, Mario Blinn and Rejean Comeau, all with singles.

Nick Comeau got the shutout, making all 14 saves, but at the other end the Fuelers’ Adam Gorman faced 52 shots.

The two teams meet again Friday at 9:30 p.m. in the Université Sainte arena in Church Point.

Sunday’s win gives Clare a record of five wins and three losses. The Fuelers have just one win in eight games this season.
