Clare Lions last night outshot the visiting Avon River Rats 53-19, but found out that a hot goalie can chill a team’s offence.

A 50-save performance from the River Rats’ Blaine Boutilier was the reason the Lions fell 6-3 in their home rink at Université Sainte-Anne.

At the other end of the ice, the Lions allow one goal for about every three shots. Colin Leblanc took the loss in the net after relieving Nick Comeau.

The Rats got a hat trick from Evan Greenough, and singles from Donnir Rodgers, John Daniels, and Greg Burgess.

Lions’ goals came from Jacques Lombard, Marc Lombard and Ryan Gallant.

The Lions are at home again tonight at 8 p.m. in the opener of a home-and-home series with the Valley Keith’s. The second game goes tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Digby.

League standings show the Lions on top of the West division with nine wins and two losses, while the Keith’s are still in the cellar with two wins and nine losses, but the rivalry between the two Digby County teams has produced some fierce action in recent seasons.
