There isn’t a bow big enough to put on the early Christmas present 12-year-old Wedgeport resident Logan Doucet is getting this week.

Although 87 bows might do the trick.

This week the Grade 6 student and his parents Claudine and Ronnie will travel to Pittsburgh to watch hockey phenom Sidney Crosby and his Penguins take on the Ottawa Senators.

The trip is the grand prize of a contest the family won.

For Logan Doucet, who is an avid hockey fan, the holidays are truly happy.

The trip to see Crosby play in Pittsburgh was the grand prize of a contest, in part sponsored by Pepsi Canada, that the family entered at the Irving gas station on Starrs Road.

Logan noticed information about the contest when he and his mother stopped for gas one day. After that whenever her son was in the vehicle Claudine Doucet says they’d always have to stop at the Irving to get gas…and so they could enter the contest again.

Eventually the family received a call telling them they had won a prize – a poster.

Better than nothing they figured.

But then there was another phone call about signing release papers. Because they hadn’t won a prize, they had won the prize. “I didn’t believe it at first,” Logan says.

Although the Penguins aren’t the student’s favourite team – he’s a diehard Montreal Canadiens fan – when you’re into hockey, as this peewee player is, it’s hard not to be a fan of Crosby. A poster of Crosby hangs in the family’s Montreal Canadien’s hockey-themed room.

There’s also a lot of pride involved when the best player in the NHL today comes from your own home province.

Asked what he likes about Crosby, the youngster says, “He’s really good and he passes the puck really good and he’s very talented.”

Plus, he seems like a really nice guy off the ice.

But it’s on the ice that this young hockey fan will get to see Crosby on this week, as Christmas comes a little early to Wedgeport via Pittsburgh.
