On Saturday Nov. 21, at 10 a.m., PET Projects team will be holding a PET Adoption Fair at the Community Center, Kings Street, Shelburne. This will take place as a part of the Christmas Craft Sale event that will showcase our crafters from throughout Shelburne County.
PET Projects is a “No-Kill, No-Cage Virtual Animal Shelter” that uses a network of foster homes to provide temporary care and the Internet to advertise stray and abandoned pets. While waiting for forever-families, animals are spayed or neutered and receive medical treatment as needed. They also receive a lot of love from their foster parents, who by getting to know these animals are well equipped to advise a potential adopter on whether a cat or dog is the right match for their family, home and lifestyle.
“We go to great lengths to re-home abandoned cats and neglected tied-out dogs. We want compassionate, responsible pet guardians who respect animals to adopt and protect the pets we rescue until death due them part,” said Shelly Hipson, PET Projects Volunteer.
The services offered by volunteers help provide a chance at a better life for those that might otherwise have been given up on. Interested adopters with Internet access can visit the PET Projects website (www.petprojects.ca) to preview animals that will be featured at the Fair, and to fill out an online adoption application to be pre-approved for any of our cats or kittens. Application forms will also be available at the Fair.
To help offset the costs of care, which can be between $80 to $200 to cover food, litter, flea and worm treatments, and spaying or neutering PET Projects will be requesting a minimum donation of $40. All monies raised goes to directly help future animals in need. PET Projects is not government funded and relies on the generosity of the community during fundraising events.
“We’re looking forward not just to showing off our adoptable cats and hopefully finding some great new homes, but also explaining the ways that we can work together with the community to make a difference,” says Renata Tweedy, PET Projects coordinator.
