Electrical fire at Zeller's one of many calls for New Minas firefighters

New Minas firefighters had a busy week between June 26 and July 3, with nine alarms in total.

On June 26, firefighters responded to an electrical fire at Zeller’s in New Minas and to a smoke condition in a trailer in the Parkwood Trailer Park.

On June 27, firefighters attended a two-vehicle collision on Bishop Avenue, which resulted in no injuries but damage to both vehicles. On June 28, New Minas responded to a medical emergency on Commercial Street.

On June 29, firefighters investigated an alarm sounding, also on Commercial Street. On July 1, New Minas, with the water rescue team, responded in mutual aid for stranded hikers near Cape Split.

On July 2, firefighters responded to garbage on fire in the Tim Hortons parking lot in New Minas. On July 3 they were called to a medical emergency on Highland Ave. and later to a two-vehicle MVC on Commercial Street.

Kentville firefighters responded to six alarms during the week. On June 27, Kentville responded to a medical emergency in Coldbrook and to an alarm sounding at Sarsfield’s in the Annapolis Valley Industrial Park.

On June 30, firefighters responded to a fire alarm at the Annapolis Valley Health office in the industrial park that turned out to be a false alarm.

On July 1, Kentville provided lift assistance for a medical emergency on Layton Street. On July 2, firefighters were called to Camp Aldershot, which had been without water for much of the day due to a main break.

Firefighters provided the camp, which is presently at full capacity with between 700-1,000 people, with water and also flushed out their systems.

Around the same time, Kentville was also dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at Belcher Street and Middle Dyke Road. There were minor injuries as a result and a small amount of fluid to clean up.

On July 1, Canning firefighters responded to a rescue call for two stranded hikers in the Cape Split area.

Boats and water rescue personnel were dispatched from New Minas and Hantsport. The hikers were located unharmed.

Later on July 1, Canning responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Highway 358 in Arlington. The driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

Greenwich firefighters responded to a three-vehicle MVC on Highway 1 in Greenwich Tuesday afternoon, June 30. There were no serious injuries, but two of the three vehicles sustained significant damage.
