Ross Creek Centre for the Arts Gallery: Alexandra McCurdy - A Stitch in Time, a stunning display of ceramics and prints will be on exhibit until Dec. 18. McCurdy’s work is drawn from the traditional Mi’kmaq quill and needlework, European textile, and her own personal history.

Glooscap Elementary School: An assembly will take place Nov. 21 at 8:15 a.m. A home and school meeting will take place Nov. 24 at 6:45 p.m., an early dismissal is scheduled for Nov. 25 at 11:05, and first term reports go home Nov. 27.
Glooscap School invites you to a tasty seasonal event. The annual pancake breakfast with Santa will take place at the Canning Fire Hall Nov. 29 from 8-10 a.m. Delicious pancakes will be served with blueberry sauce and sausages. Glooscap School also presents “Family Photo Night.” Light & Lens Photography will be offering family holiday cards at the school Nov. 25 and 26, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Each session takes approximately 10 minutes. Cards are 4x6 with a holiday border, and are printed on the spot -- priced at just $1 per card. Proceeds go to the Home and School in support of skating and swimming programs. Northeast Kings Education Centre: a high school dance will take place Nov. 19 from 7:30-10:30 p.m.; high school parent teacher interviews will be Nov. 20 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There will be an early dismissal for the middle school Nov. 21 at 12:15 p.m., no school for Grades 9-12, and high school parent teacher interviews from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Lifetouch Photography will set up in the library Nov. 17-20 for grad photos, and Nov. 24 there will be no school for students and high school parent teacher interviews will take place at 6:30-8:30 p.m.

The 14th annual 4 Church Bazaar and Luncheon will take place Saturday, Nov. 22, at the Canning Lions Hall. Together the St. Lawrence Catholic, the Trinity United, St. Michael’s Anglican and the United Baptists churches will present one giant Christmas Bazaar and Luncheon. It’s a great place to meet new and old friends, purchase some unique gifts and Christmas bake goods and enjoy a delicious soup and dessert luncheon.

The Canning Interchurch Council will be accepting Christmas box applications for the Canning, Centreville and Halls Harbour areas Thursday, Nov. 27 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 2 from 7-9 p.m. at the Trinity United Church in Canning, 582-7556 and at the Centreville Baptist Church in Centreville 678-1946.
Canning Heritage calendars, inspired by the Churches of Blomidon Country tour, will be available soon at the library, at local businesses, and at the 14th annual 4 Church Bazaar in November at a cost of $10.
Canning Lions Club: Tickets for the remote electric fireplace with Riverview stone insert with 4250 B.T.U. that heats 400 square feet are available from any Canning Lions member or at the Canning Sunday flea markets for $2 each or three for $5. Draw date Dec. 21 just in time to hang your stockings.
Sunday Flea Markets: The Canning Lions Hall opens to sellers from 6-8 a.m. and buyers from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Tables are $5 each. Canteen is available. Wheelchair accessible. Contact Don at 678-5525 for details.
Blood collection clinics take place at the Canning Pharmasave Tuesday and Thursdays from 8-10 a.m. at a cost of $6. A free monthly cholesterol and blood pressure clinic is also available. Seniors day is the last Thursday of the month.
Cornwallis District New Horizon Seniors meet each Wednesday from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Lions Hall in Canning. Seniors, aged 55 and up, enjoy an afternoon with a brief business meeting, a lunch, and then games, like cards, crib and crokinole and an occasional day trip. New members welcome. Annual fee only $5. Food Bank donations to those in need are greatly appreciated. Contact Harry Currie at 582-3886 to drop off nonperishable food items during the mornings at 1000 Seminary Street, Canning, or you can drop off items at various locations around town.
The Canning library is a great source of new and old books for children to adults. You can also check out the book sale tables where reading treasures await you.
Winter hours are Tuesdays from 2-5 p.m., Thursdays from 2-5 p.m., Fridays from 10 - 1 and Saturdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
