Now you see them, now you don’t. Richard Harvie, a candidate for councillor in this district, reports his campaign signs are mysteriously disappearing. He joked that either someone doesn’t want him to win or they think his campaign signs might become collector’s items. A reminder that tampering or removing signs is against the law.

New winter hours at the Canning library are Tuesdays from 2-5 p.m., Thursdays from 2-5 p.m., Fridays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Bookmobile arrives at the Lions Hall Tues., Oct. 14 from 7-8 p.m.

Ross Creek Centre for the Arts: At Adult Arts Sunday you will have the opportunity to work with two of Nova Scotia’s finest fabric artists, Barbara Hill-Taylor and Pat Loucks, Oct. 19 while creating your own masterpieces. Loucks takes you through a dying workshop and Taylor provides techniques on artistic quilt-making.

Children’s Visual Art Class: The artist in residence, Sojo Truth, will run Sunday afternoon classes for the next 10 weeks beginning Oct. 5 to Dec. 7 from 1-3 p.m. Kids 8-11 years old will have the opportunity to explore the world of art in fun and amazing ways and have their creations displayed in the Ross Creek Community Gallery.

Fall Teen Programs: Preparing for art or theatre school from Oct. 5 to Dec. 7. Build your portfolio while receiving guidance to determine which school is right for you while upgrading your skills. Or if you just want to take a fabulous art or theatre class, join others at Ross Creek.

The Cornwallis District New Horizon Seniors’ Group meets each Wednesday from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Lions Hall in Canning. Seniors age 55 and up enjoy an afternoon with a brief business meeting, a lunch and then games like cards, crib and crokinole and an occasional day trip. New members welcome. Annual fee only $5. Contact Rose at 582-7346 for details.

Canning Fire Hall Play Group takes place Thursdays from 1-2 p.m. All preschool children and parents and guardians are welcome to attend the programs. The fun is free and includes parachute play, hula-hoops, blocks, dolls, trucks, and so much more.

Northeast Kings Education Centre: Post-Secondary Day will be held Wed., Oct. 16 from 12-3 p.m. in the lobby with over 40 representatives from universities and colleges. Booths will be set up where parents and students will have the opportunity to speak to representatives.

Sunday Flea Markets: Each Sunday, the Canning Lions Hall opens its doors to sellers from 6-8 a.m. and buyers from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tables are $5 each. Canteen is available. Wheelchair accessible. Contact Don at 678-5525 for details.

Canning walkers: Walking in a group is a great way to stay motivated, keep active, have fun and meet new people. There’s no experience necessary to join.

Need blood work? Have your blood drawn by medical laboratory technologist Elaine Eye. For $10, Eye will come to your home weekday mornings from 7-10 a.m. Call for an appointment 582-7119.

A blood collection clinic takes place at the Canning Pharmasave Tuesday and Thursdays from 8-10 a.m. at a cost of $6. A free monthly cholesterol and blood pressure clinic is also available. Seniors’ day is the last Thursday of the month.
