Not people who write letters in open forums, events occurred this past week that led us to do just that. My partner needed medical assistance in a timely fashion and our physician, Dr. Enright called on the hospital late in the day to request an assessment. The X-ray department stayed late, thanks to Charmaine Pothier and Dr. Turner. With no available beds, the ER department found a quiet corner and our visit turned into a three-day stay. The women and men who work the ER cared for my partner with compassion and professionalism that eased our worries in a difficult time. We will never forget them for all the small things done that were over and above the call.
Part of the “Boomer” generation, we watch will real fear as services, facilities, and funds are cut back, particularly outside of HRM. Many of the ER staff at Hants Community Hospital will retire in the next few years, with small hope of refilling those positions. Without our hospital, many would never make it to the city in time…
Instead of a complaint too often voiced, we feel compelled to back our health care workers and fight to support this community service we can never be with out.
