The Barrington Barons went 4-1 to win the annual Tim Horton’s Lobster Trap High School Lobster Trap Tournament on the Jan. 30 weekend.

Ten teams, representing a mix of schools from across the province, competed in the three day tourney, hosted by the Barons at both the Barrington and Shelburne arenas.

The Barons' opened the tourney with a 4-3 overtime loss to the J.L Ilsley Judges. Colby Greenwood, Scotland MacKinnon and game MVP Brent Symonds were the Barons' marksmen.

Barrington came back with a 3-2 overtime win over the Sir John A. MacDonald Flames. Jordan Goreham, Logan Quinlan and game MVP Chad Harris scored for the Barons.

In game three Barrington shut out the Clare Wolves 2-0. Luke Greenwood and game MVP Michel Kubat posted goals for Barrington. Shane Dixon had the shutout.

In semi-final action, the Barons defeated CEC 5-2 to advance to the banner game. Game MVP Logan Quinlan led the Barons with two markers, with singles from Scotland MacKinnon, Brent Symonds and Brydon Ryerson.

In the championship game, the Barons took out J.L. Ilsley 5-2 for the title. Game MVP Brent Symonds posted markers for Barrington, with singles from Matt Goodwin, Farren Goreham and Scotland MacKinnon.

The Barons' Logan Quinlan was named tournament MVP as well as an all-star defenceman. The tourney's Most Sportsmanlike Player award went to Scotland MacKinnon, while a $500 bursary for athletics and academics was awarded to Devon Garron.

Also named to the tournament all-star team from Barrington was goalie Shane Dixon and forward Brent Symonds.

In the tournament skills competition, the Barons' Matt Goodwin took top honors for most accurate shot. "It was good to see such a variety of teams coming down here to compete for the title," said BMHS head coach Adam Aldred. "The competition level was very high, and it was only through hard work and smarts that we got the win. We got solid two-way play from our skaters, and very good goaltending in the back end, and that is what big-time hockey is all about. Everybody on that bench has a role to play, and the only way we win is if everyone is committed to it. This weekend we were committed and it paid off."

Aldred said the Barons would like to thank Cindy Stoddard and Tim Horton's for their generous contributions to the tournament, the teams from away for persevering through the weather to make the tournament a success, all the parent-volunteers who helped with the hospitality room and 50/50, the arena workers, the referees, timekeepers, awards selection personnel, security, the website volunteers, the students working the gate, as well as local businesses for their help and donations, especially Gem Sporting Goods and Nova's Finest Seafoods, and all the parents and community members for coming out to show their support.

The Barons are undefeated in the South Shore High School Hockey League this season with an 11-0-1 record for a first placed finish in the league, earning a first round bye for the provincial playoffs. Overall the Barons have a 28-10-1 season record.
