A huge collaborative effort by restaurants, wineries, farm markets and communities in Kings and Hants counties culminates this month in the second annual Valley Pumpkin Festival.
Over 30 events are planned in October from Aylesford to Brooklyn. Michael Howell of Tempest Restaurant in Wolfville and Hanspeter Stutz of Domain de Grand Pre Winery agree the festival line-up is an example of the kind of co-operative marketing that has developed in recent years.
Festival events in Kings County include the unveiling of the pumpkin art mosaic at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market October 6. A showcase of food is also planned.
Kentville’s famous annual Harvest Festival, with its pumpkin people, begins October 6 and runs to Oct. 28.
Hantsport has a pumpkin carving workshop planned October 20 and a Halloween harvest supper the same night. It will be followed by a candlelit cemetery tour and a moonlight tour of historic Churchill House.
For a complete list of events, see the festival’s culinary passport map, available at many local farm markets and restaurants. It invites diners to win prizes by tasting pumpkin creations at over 20 participating eateries. First prize is a Windsor getaway weekend.
Get pumped for Pumpkin fest!
