RECREATION REPORT

Mobile Aquatics Program to resume in two communities

The Region of Queens Municipality is pleased to announce that the Mobile Aquatics Program, a longstanding tradition of providing aquatic instruction to children in communities throughout Queens, is scheduled to resume in Greenfield and East Port Medway. Swimming lessons began on the waterfront of the Ponhook Lodge Campground in Greenfield on Monday, July 16th and will continue until July 27th.

Registration for lessons in East Port Medway will be taken at the Recreation Department, 249 White Point Road, Liverpool, on July 24th and 25th, from 8:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. The lessons in East Port Medway will be held at the pool of Roy and Shirley Dagley.

Registration is limited and will be taken on a first come first served basis, with payment and completed waivers due at time of registration. For further information, please contact the Recreation Dept. at 354-5741.

Red Cross Swimming Lessons

Registration for Milton Centennial Pool Session 3 & 4 will be taken on July 24 & 25. Registration for Sessions 3 & 4 at the North Queens Aquatic Centre will be taken on July 24 & 25 at the pool from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Walk Your Way Through Summer

This season the Region of Queens Recreation Department is proud to offer a three-month walking program to promote healthy living and community involvement. We hope that our participants will reach an accumulative goal of 10,000 km, walked from June 1st to August 25th. There will be monthly prize draws and a grand prize draw at the end of the program. There is no cost for registration. There will be a scheduled group walk every Thursday for those who wish to participate. Dude Day, Port Medway

July 24th, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Warm up your fingers for a day filled with painting, playing and cardboard construction at the Port Medway Fire Hall! This event is for ages 5 - 11 years. The cost is $5 per person and a snack is included. Space is limited to 15 participants. Please pre-register by Friday, July 20th.

Community Health Day, Liverpool

On July 28th, from 12 p.m.- 4 p.m., there will be a showcase of snacks and activities to improve your health at the Milton Community Hall. All ages are welcome, free of charge. Wear your sneakers and prepare your taste buds!

Motocross Demonstration/BMX Showcase, Liverpool

On July 30th, from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m., get out your gear and suit up, it's BMX time! Enjoy a motocross demonstration behind the Gorham School, Payzant Street, Liverpool and participate in a BMX showcase. This event is for ages 11 years and up. The cost is $5 per person and a snack is included. Please bring your own helmet and bicycle. Pre-register by Wednesday, July 25th.

Tennis Camp, Greenfield

On July 26th & 27th at the Greenfield Multipurpose Court from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. or 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.. Each day staff from the Liverpool Tennis Club will be instructing participants how to play the game of tennis. This program is for children aged 6 years plus and costs $10.00 per person. A minimum of four participants per session is required. Please pre-register by Monday, July 23rd at the Recreation Department.

Red Cross Babysitting Course, Liverpool

The Recreation Department has received requests to hold another Red Cross Babysitting Course. If you are interested in taking the course please contact the Recreation Department at 354-5741. The proposed date for the course would be Aug. 21st.

Tennis Camp, Port Medway

On Aug. 2nd and 3rd head over to the Multipurpose Court in Port Medway and join the staff of the Liverpool Tennis Club as they "serve" up the fun! Learn how to play the game at a two-day Tennis Camp! Participants will be advised of the time of their camp after registration. (Two sessions per day, one from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m., the other 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. This event is for ages 6 years and up. The cost is $10 per person. Please pre-register by Monday, July 30. There is a minimum registration of four participants per session required.

Beach Meadows Beach Mussel Bake & Picnic, Beach Meadows

Bring a picnic supper and sample some mussels on August 2nd from 6- 8 p.m. at Beach Meadows Beach, which are cooked over hot rocks with seaweed. Enter our sand sculpting contest! All ages are welcome. Admission is free!

Seniors Day at Marina Park, Brooklyn

Come out and boogie with Salt Water Cowboys on August 3 from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. and enjoy the music and refreshments for the afternoon. Bring your own lawnchair. Admission is free! Rain date is Friday, August 10th.

Glow Bowling for Kids, Liverpool

Let us get your muscles moving on August 6th with some glow bowling! Kids aged 5- 7 years will bowl from 12:30-2 p.m. The cost is $5 per person for two strings. Pre-register by Friday, Aug. 3rd. Glow Bowling for kids aged 8-11 years will run from 2:30-4 p.m.

Diva Day, Caledonia

There's nothing like dressing up, and being a girlie-girl, so come on out, on August 8th from 2- 4 p.m. at the Whitman Inn with the Recreation Staff and enjoy the day being a diva. This event is for ages 5 - 8 years. The cost is $8 per person. Space is limited to 18 participants. Please pre-register by Monday, Aug. 6th.
