The town’s engineer says there are modifications being made at the wastewater treatment plant on the south end of Water Street to reduce the odour coming from the building.

But Dave Ernst told town councillors at a June 25 committee of the whole meeting that no matter what is done, it will never entirely eliminate odours escaping from the building. “There’s always going to be odours that escape the plant,” said Ernst. “I can’t guarantee that there will never be odours.”

The hope, though, is to minimize them.

Councillor Dan MacIsaac said while the odour is not an everyday situation, at times it is so intolerable that people living in the area can’t enjoy their yards and they have to keep their windows closed in their homes.
