I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season and I wish you all a Happy New Year.

As I try to keep abreast of news and events happening in Port Williams, I appreciate the websites of the village, local schools and churches.

There is certainly a great deal of useful information and links on the village website (www.portwilliams.com) starting with the expected contact information for staff and commissioners. The Organizations and Recreation pages give contact names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses for the large variety of things that are available to do here. I didn’t realize the variety and numbers of businesses we had until I looked in the Business Directory.

A link to information about Secondary Planning Strategy, a municipal planning document that will guide the growth and development of our community, has a prominent place on the homepage. Two community workshops are being held at the Community Centre in the auditorium: Wed., Feb. 4 from 2-4 p.m. and Thurs., Feb. 5 from 7-9 p.m.

The SPS committee is “seeking community feedback to ensure that the work done so far is on the right track and will be used to refine the strategic goals and make hard land use planning choices.”

In the Village Photo Gallery you’ll see a year in the life of Port Williams with photos of a wide range of events, the most recent being the Port Williams Park Committee’s Open House and the Community Christmas Tree-Lighting Party.

The Port Williams Men’s Fellowship will have its next meeting Thurs. Jan. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Ron Buckley will be giving a travel log on Greece.

The Port Williams Hospital Auxiliary will have its first meeting in the New Year Jan. 13 at 9:30 a.m. This will be held in the Ladies’ Parlour of the Baptist Church.

The topic will be “Healthy Beginnings” and the speaker will be Johanna MacLeod. Everyone is welcome.

PWES: The next Home and School meeting will take place Wed., Jan. 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the library. Primary Registration will take place Feb. 5-6. If you have a preschooler(s), ages 0-5 in your home or if you know of children in your neighbourhood who are ages 0-5, please contact the school and fill out a registration form by Fri. Jan. 9.

Please note that due to a change in schedules of our Health Nurses, our date has been changed from March 5 and 6 to Feb. 5 and 6.

EMS: The next Home and School meeting will take place Wed., Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. Student-led conferences will be held Thurs., Jan. 22 from 6:30-9 p.m.

Baptist Church: The next meeting of the WMA will be Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the ladies’ parlour. Rev. Dave will be doing a Bible study on the Book of Esther.
