The third International Ukulele Ceilidh went with hardly a glitch, says Chairperson Martin Hilliard.
From Oct. 22-25 hundreds of Ukulele aficionados and enthusiasts descended upon Queens Co. from all over the world to take in everything and anything ukulele.
Hilliard says the number of people seemed up from last year, although he didn’t have the exact figures yet. However he adds almost all of the 630 workshop spots were sold out this year, something that hasn’t happened in the past.
Concert numbers seemed up as well, especially Sunday when the theatre was almost full. He explained in the past those numbers usually weren’t so great with people getting ready for work and other commitments.
So far, they’ve had lots of positive response from participants and performers and very little criticism.
“James Hill summed it up when he said ‘last weekend was a tour de force of good vibes, great organization, volunteer power and beautiful music.’”
They are hoping for suggestions from the festivalgoer’s on what they can do to improve it in two year’s time.
Still, he says it feels wonderful when compliments come in like that.
“We don’t do it for thanks, we do it for the people who come. But it still feels great.”
Now the committee is focusing on wrapping it all up, sending out thank you’s to everyone who participated and getting the accounting in order.
Planning for the fourth Ceilidh will begin sometime next year.
