The Juno Award-winning rock band Wintersleep, which has Yarmouth ties, will open for former Beatle Paul McCartney when he hits the stage in Halifax July 11.

The group, which features former Yarmouth residents Paul Murphy and Tim d'Eon, was hand-picked by Sir Paul himself after he heard their latest album, Welcome To The Night Sky.

Wintersleep, fresh off an extensive tour of Europe, will follow up the Halifax show with a busy summer of touring that includes major festival stops in the U.K. and Canada.

Halifax's Joel Plaskett is also slated to perform at the July 11 event.
