Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site of Canada is pleased to host a special event “The Canoes are Coming”, this Saturday, June 20th, 2009.
The public is invited to take part in special activities throughout the day which are focused on a new exhibit at Kejimkujik’s visitor centre of the Kejimkujik birch bark canoe. Welcoming remarks begin at 10:00 a.m. in the visitor centre. A procession of birch bark canoes and paddle across Kejimkujik Lake will take place at 10:45 a.m. followed by a celebratory feast at 12:30 p.m. at Merrymakedge Beach.
The Kejimkujik birch bark canoe, hand built by locals Todd Labrador and his children Matt and Melissa Labrador, will be moved to its new home in the Kejimkujik visitor centre after the day of ceremony on June 20th. This new exhibit will feature the national historic site and the history of Mi’kmaq canoeing at Kejimkujik.
