“I’ve always enjoyed the challenge of entertaining a crowd by myself,” Dupuis notes in his biography to the Hall of Fame.
“I’ve done band work, but my preference has always been solo work. The satisfaction that I’ve gotten from it is like nothing else I’ve experienced.”
His induction will take place Oct. 17 in Fredericton where Hall of Fame member Frank Kartt will host the gala banquet.
Dupuis, who has expressed great pleasure at the nomination, was born in Chipman, N.B., and grew up influenced by the music of father, Arthur, an excellent fiddler.
By the age of nine, Dupuis was chording on the guitar as his father played, and by 13 he had written his first song.
Over 40 years later, Dupuis says he has written over 1,000 songs, including ‘You Been Special to Me’, which reached number one on the charts of CFNB radio in 1983. He also was the New Brunswick winner of the Maritime contemporary song writing contest in 1988, and in 1988-89 was a semi-finalist in the Brooks Diamond Star Search.
Dupuis has appeared on television 44 times, including on the Tommy Hunter Show, Wrap Around Nashville, Ryan’s Fancy, and during three seasons with the CBC-French TV production ‘La Bastragne’.
Other inductees this October will be Johnny Comfort, Reg Gallant, Stan Taylor and the late Hughie Yorke.
