Chamber to present business awards Nov. 19

The awards will be presented Wednesday evening, Nov. 19.

There are seven award categories and finalists have been chosen for each.

They include – according to a list provided by the chamber – Robin Nickerson (System Care), Mark Davis (Colovo Design) and Teri-Lynn Mullins and Candace Boudreau (Tip Top Tails Pet Grooming) for the youth entrepreneur award.

Finalists for the community service award are Michael Trask (L.G. Trask Holdings Ltd.), Don Cook (Cook’s Dairy) and Curtis Saulnier (Saulnier’s Home Hardware).

Guy Surette (Tusket Ultramar), Doug Thistle (Thistle Hyundai) and Krista Smith (Design Line & Klic Boutique) are finalists for the customer service award.

Finalists for the export achievement award are A.L. LeBlanc Ltd. – Patrick LeBlanc; Tracy’s Wood N Things – Tracy and Bob LeBlanc.

Up for business-person-of-the-year honours are Don Hamilton (Hamilton’s Fine Clothing), William Atkinson (Yarmouth Forklift Ltd.) and Graham Surette (Graham Construction).

Sandra Dennis (Lovitt House Treasures), Pierrette d’Entremont (Pida Infant & Maternity Products) and Renee LeBlanc (Rav’en Hair Studio & Esthetics) are finalists for the female entrepreneur award.

Listed by the chamber as finalists for the business marketing award: Gary Dixon (Privateers Sou’West Harley Davidson), Don and Ilona Smith (Ellis Print Ltd.) and Don Cook (Cook’s Dairy).

The Grand is a new venue for the business awards event, which previously had been held at the local Nova Scotia Community College campus.

The decision to change locations was based on logistics, a chamber official says. “We certainly were happy to be at Burridge and we liked the relationship between the chamber of commerce and the (college’s) hospitality group (Burridge’s tourism management program),” said Jim Greig, the chamber’s executive director.

Contacted last week, he said tickets for the dinner were still available through the chamber office.

Neville Gilfoy,publisher of Halifax-based Progress magazine, will be the evening’s guest speaker.
