BINGO

The weekly YFD Monday and Wednesday night bingos which shut down several months ago have dismantled the equipment. Members removed TVs and number boards which were sold.

WEST PUBNICO FD FUNDRAISER

The West Pubnico Fire Department is having a giant fundraiser from Aug. 8 to Aug. 12. Numerous activities which include bistro, BBQ chicken, musical entertainment, blueberry festival, old fashioned homemade vegetable soup, sewing demonstrations, art exhibit, sheep herding and shearing, dunking booth, sucker table, and other forms of entertainment. Something for the entire family. Like most small fire departments funding such as this is very vital to maintain an efficient department.

DATE IN HISTORY

Aug. 9, 1973 - The Yarmouth Fire Department responded to a gas spill at the Imperial Oil bulk plant, North Water Street at 3:50 p.m. A cement wall surrounding the tanks kept the spill contained until cleanup was completed. Immediate homes were evacuated and traffic diverted from the area. The department and Imperial employees were busy for two hours.

BOAT FIRES

Engine or wiring burning? Turn off engine, and then use your dry chemical or carbon dioxide (CO2) extinguisher. Try not to use up the extinguisher in case the fire restarts. Disconnect battery as soon as possible. If fire gets near gasoline tank, "abandon ship", too much risk.

Galley stove on fire? Shut off fuel, use extinguisher. Have bucket with rope attached as an excellent extra fire fighting tool. (But not for flammable liquid or gas fires)

YFD BUSY

From July 27 to July 30 the Yarmouth Fire Department responded to seven calls, ranging from a vehicle leaking gas, a motor vehicle accident, two electrical malfunctions and two interior alarms.
