They have cut a CD - and will soon need a second batch.

The Evergreen Chime Choir launched its first CD, Making Melodies, at the Kentville home for special care July 3, at an event attended by choir members, residents, staff and family and friends.

The CD features a soothing selection of favorites, from such classics as “Edelweiss” and “My Favorite Things,” to the more spiritual “Morning Has Broken” and “Because He Lives.”

The choir members played three selections at the launch, and each resident received a CD and certificate of appreciation.

The CD is dedicated to all past members of the choir, whose contributions continue to be appreciated. The choir includes about 19 members, who meet for practices on a regular basis.

Choir director Chaplain Mary Anne Doherty-Fleet says the project has enriched the lives of the residents. The music on the CD promotes relaxation, sooths the soul and stimulates the memory - bringing comfort and assurance to the listener. “We've found it to be very, very relaxing.”

The choir itself is “a wonderful group of dedicated residents.”

Choir members enjoyed the practices and performances, too. “I think it's a beautiful thing to do,” said Lorraine Reynolds. “It's something to look forward to. It is enjoyable.”

Isabel Dominey said, “I love being part of the Chime Choir.”
