(NC)—Colours tone down in 2009 with shades of both warm and cool greys becoming the hottest new neutrals. Cabinetry, paint, tiles, and even sinks and faucets are now available in a range of greys. Far from dull, these new greys add a touch of sophistication and could become today's white alternative.
“Grey is a very strong colour in home décor and fashion this year.” says Alexandra Marshall, director of marketing for Blanco Canada. “While white has seemed to fall back somewhat in recent years as a kitchen colour trend, there is always a need for lighter colours and grey seems to have stepped in. As well, as a neutral colour, it's highly versatile to work with and depending on the other colours you select around it, can create different moods.”
A number of manufacturers are launching products for the home this year in various shades of grey. Irpinia Kitchens of Toronto will showcase a striking new cabinetry finish at design shows this spring, called Audacity. A contemporary variegated pattern of shades of grey, the look is elegant and urban. Premium sink manufacturer, Blanco, will launch their newest colour in their Silgranit line of natural stone sinks, this spring. Called Silk, the colour is a pale, concrete-look grey that will be available in several models including a large single bowl and a round island sink model. A highly durable composite material made of 80 percent natural granite, Silgranit is Canada's leading coloured-sink brand.
“Scratch-proof and highly heat and stain resistant, Silgranit sinks are perfect for busy homeowners who need an easy-care sink,” adds Ms. Marshall. “Silgranit can withstand a pot of boiling water straight from the stove and because it's non-porous, is very easy to clean.”
Blanco offers more than 100 sink models in Silgranit and seven colours, and continues to expand the successful line every year. Silk was developed in response to the new colour trend but Blanco expects this trend will also have some longevity.
“Silk is a highly versatile grey that creates a different look in the kitchen depending on the type of countertop selected,” adds Ms. Marshall. “Paired with a marble countertop or a grey quartz, it creates a soft, sophisticated look; with a bright blue, red or black quartz top, the result is a bold contemporary effect. Since it also beautifully complements stainless steel appliances and fixtures, we expect it to become one of our more popular colours.”
The company will also introduce a faucet and soap dispenser in Silk grey to complement the new sinks. More information is available online at www.blancocanada.com.
