The Acadia University Shinerama Committee will be hosting its annual Shinerama event Saturday, September 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a fantastic opportunity for both students and the community to make new friends and make a difference in the lives of others.

The Shiners will be bussed out from Wheelock Dining Hall at 9 a.m. (courtesy of Perry Rand) and will be doing various activities to earn money for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. There will be various ‘Shine Stations’ throughout the Wolfville – New Minas – Kentville area, with larger “Shine Stations” at County Fair Mall, Greenwich Irving, New Minas Petro Can and Town Square (Kentville).

At 10 a.m. September 6, Shine Day will be officially declared by Wolfville Councillor Rosemary Segado at the Wolfville Farmer’s Market.

Shinerama is Canada’s largest post-secondary fundraiser, involving students at approximately 60 university and college campuses annually.

Cystic fibrosis, which attacks the lungs and the digestive system, is the most common, fatal, genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. Canadian researchers discovered the gene responsible for cystic fibrosis in 1989 and continue to play a leading role in the race to develop treatments.
