A letter to the Annapolis County Spectator

Topics :
Annapolis County Spectator , Dear Editor

Dear Editor:

As parents, our children’s safety is very important to us. This is why I am writing this letter.

I am teaching my 2-1/2-year-old about crossing the road safely. Look boths ways, no playing/stopping for any reason on a crosswalk, and most importantly – wait for all vehicles to stop before stepping onto the crosswalk.

The problem I am experiencing is this: vehicles are not always stopping. On several occasions I have waited up to five minutes (with two young children) before being able to cross. I have also experienced being on the crosswalk and vehicles decide to drive through anyway, and give me a look of ‘you’re taking too long.’

It is also very scary to be in the centre of a crosswalk, pass a vehicle, and that vehicle drives through as soon as you pass them – what if my child runs back?

So please – our children’s safety (and teaching them safety) is our community’s business, whether at home, school, or crossing the road.

I keep my eye on your children as they cross the road – please keep an eye on mine.

Sincerely

Audrey Pegg,

Mom of seven

Middleton
