Bear River residents young and old turned out in droves yesterday for an afternoon of music, square dancing, crafts and games to celebrate Canada's 142nd birthday. Highlights included a 'Rat Race' for hamsters, guinea pigs, rats, and even a ferret, panning for gold, a pet costume contest, water slide, kids' games and a couple hours of 'progressive bluegrass' by Halifax's Strangeboys.
