RECREATION REPORT
Swimming Lesson Registration: Greenfield
Swimming lesson registration will be held in Greenfield on June 23 from 10 am to 6 pm at the Greenfield School. Session 1 will be held at Hunts Beach from July 20 to July 31; and Session 2 will be held at Ponhook Lake, Ponhook Lodge from August 2 to 14. Both sessions will be held in the mornings, Monday to Friday. Lessons are $35 per person per session. Completed waivers and payment are due at registration and will not be accepted lakeside during lessons.
Bronze Cross Training
A Bronze Cross Course will be held at Milton Centennial Pool. The class dates and times are as follows: June 23, 1 -4 pm; June 24, 9 am - 12 noon, 1 - 4 pm, June 25, 1:30 - 4:30 pm; June 26, 9 am - 12 noon, 1 - 4 pm; June 27, time TBA (Mock Exam day); June 28, Time TBA (Exam Day). The cost is $15 plus an additional $25 if you require another Bronze Manual. Pre-requisite: Completion of Bronze Medallion.
Red Cross Babysitting Course: Liverpool
Get prepared for summer babysitting. Course will cover handling emergencies, injury prevention (i.e. personal safety and security, home, fire and toy safety), babysitting rights and responsibilities, basic first aid and child care, etc. Participants will need to bring a doll or stuffed animal. The course will be held at the Dr. J.C. Wickwire gymnasium on Monday, July 6th and Tuesday, July 7th from 9 am to 1 pm each day. Instructor: Karen Geddes-Selig. Ages: 11 years +. Cost: $45/person (includes manual & lunch both days). Please pre-register by Monday, June 29th at the Recreation Department (354-5741).
Red Cross Babysitting Course: North Queens
Come get certified for a summer of babysitting with instructor Laura-Lee Johnson. Learn the basic skills you will need to be a responsible and competent babysitter. The course will be held at the North Queens Consolidated School Multi-Purpose Room on Wednesday, June 24th from 9 am- 3 pm. Ages: 11 years +. Cost: $45 (includes manual, lunch & snack). Summer Dance Camp
Do you love to dance? Come get your groove on and plie the week away! Instructor Emma Cochrane will be teaching 5 age group classes with classes starting on Monday, July 20th and continuing until Friday, July 24th. Creative Movement for ages 3-4 yrs at cost of $30/child (45 minute class/day), Beginner Tap & Jazz for ages 5-6 yrs at cost of $30/child (45 minute class/day), Level 1 Ballet, Tap, Jazz & Hip Hop for ages 7-9 years at cost of $40/child (1.5 hour class/day), Level 2 Ballet, Tap, Jazz & Hip Hop for ages 10-12 yrs at a cost of $40/child (1.5 hour class/day), Teen Ballet, Tap, Jazz (Broadway, Funk & Classical) & Contemporary for ages 13 yrs + at cost of $50/child (2 hour class/day). Martial Arts Self- Defense Course
Come and join instructor Neil Selig for two action packed afternoons on July 6 & July 9 from 2- 4 pm in the Dr. J. C. Wickwire Gymnasium. Learn the basics of martial arts and self-defense. Make sure to wear comfortable clothing and bring a water bottle!
Soccer Camp, Greenfield
Join instructors from the Queens Minor Soccer Association for a 3-day soccer camp on Monday, July 13th; Tuesday, July 14th; & Wednesday, July 15th from 1:30 – 3:30 pm. Learn important skills, participate in drills and play soccer. Ages: 5 - 14 years. Cost: $30.00 for 3 days. Pre-register by Monday, July 6th. Rain location: Greenfield Recreation Centre.
Geocaching Event
Come and explore the trails of Pine Grove Park while searching for the hidden geocaches on Thursday, July 16th from 1:30 – 3:00 pm. GPS units will be provided. Wear sneakers and appropriate clothing. Ages: 8 - 13 years. Cost: $5 (drink included). Pre-register by Thursday, July 9th. Rain date Friday, July 17th.
