All schools in Annapolis, Kings and West Hants will be dismissed tow hours early today, Jan. 7. Environment Canada has issued a warning that extended periods of freezing rain are expected this afternoon and evening in Hants County.

An intense low-pressure system will push a warm front over southwestern Nova Scotia this afternoon. It will cross northeastern regions tonight. Generally 5 to 10 centimetres of snow is expected ahead of the warm front. Several hours of ice pellets and freezing rain are expected near the front. Precipitation will change to rain over all regions this evening or overnight as strong south to southwest winds bring temperatures well above zero as the warm front slides north of Nova Scotia.

Additionally higher than normal water levels are expected at high tide along the Atlantic coast Thursday morning and the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence Thursday afternoon and evening.
