A baby goat stolen from the petting zoo at Hennigar’s Farm Market in Greenwich has been returned safe and sound.
Owner Doug Hennigar said he realized the goat was missing when he went to feed them Wednesday evening, June 6 and he contacted the RCMP.
Hennigar called this reporter about the ‘kid’napping Thursday afternoon, June 7 and a story with a video clip of Hennigar asking for the safe return of the goat, no questions asked, appeared soon thereafter on NovaNewsNow.com.
Hennigar said someone at CBC-Radio must have seen the story and called him about doing an on-air interview at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday evening. He said that almost immediately a call was received from someone in Canning who had found the goat on the side of the road during an early morning walk. The goat was friendly enough to be picked up so the person took it to a place where they knew horses were kept.
The horses didn’t take to the goat so it was taken to Coldbrook, where Hennigar said it was in safe hands.
They e-mailed a photo of the goat to Hennigar and he identified it as the missing animal. By Saturday morning, the goat was back at Hennigar’s Farm Market. He said the baby seemed quite happy to see its mother.
“It was no worse for wear…it ended well,” Hennigar said. “It was a situation where the media was able to get the word out and we’re happy to have him back.”
It’s still a mystery how the goat got to Canning, but Hennigar can’t help but wonder. He said it remains to be seen if any charges will result from the theft.
Got their goat!
