To the Editor:
What exactly is the purpose of those hot-rodders taking part in Skidoo races? Going fast is just a matter of who has the biggest engine (picture on front page, Feb. 20, 2007).
They waste resources, pollute, create noise, and for all those reasons cost society a lot.
If you want recreation, put your skis or skates on, or jump on your bike. That is non-polluting and is good for your health.
While I’m not sure that global warming is caused by man, we sure do know that pollution is. I believe I saw a statement in the press that 20 per cent of Nova Scotia children are suffering from emphysema. We can do something about pollution even though we many not be able to do anything about a ‘hot spell cycle’ in the life of the Earth.
Something else; you hear people complaining about the wind turbines being noisy, but you never hear anybody complaining about exhaust from the internal combustion engines (there’s an oxymoron if ever I heard one) of the several hundred thousand cars that roar to life each morning.
