Be careful driving through Paradise August 9. You could be swept into a temporal vortex back to the 1930s and ‘40s – and swear that the Glenn Miller Orchestra has set up on the back lawns of Ellenhurst, the estate of Linda and David Hankinson.

If this happens, just go with it. Time is a funny thing and an evening with the Annapolis Big Band at the ninth annual Moonlight Concert in Paradise is worth the brief sojourn into the past to this moonlight serenade. While Miller’s trombone won’t be there, who’s to say the great bandleader’s spirit won’t hover at Ellenhurst as almost two dozen passionate musicians pay homage to his music and era?

Regardless, the hundreds who show up will hear the Annapolis Big Band perform the great tunes of the 1930s and 40s outside under the stars. “… for your listening and dancing pleasure,” says Hankinson, host and trumpet player.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. August 9, on the grounds at Ellenhurst 10252 Highway #1 Paradise, the band and singer Donna Lynn Holmes, will be featured in the ninth annual Moonlight Concert. Hankinson advises that visitors bring lawn chairs and perhaps a picnic and enjoy this live performance of the fabulous music as played by the big bands of the time, such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller and others.

A donation in support of the Paradise Community Hall will be appreciated. Free parking is available on the grounds at Ellenhurst and on-site transportation is provided for people needing assistance.

The Moonlight Concert is a magical evening of music between 7:30 and 11 p.m. on August 9 in a wonderful outdoor setting. Rain date is August 10..

All are welcome to come and enjoy this fine musical group performing the great tunes we all know from the 1930s and ‘40s. For further information telephone 902-584-3570.
