Hazardous Portable Work Lights

Underwriters Laboratories (UL) is notifying consumers that portable 500 watt halogen work lights manufactured by Shanghai Xiangshan Industries may pose a risk of fire and electrical shock. These lights do not comply with UL requirements and are not eligible to bear the UL mark. The lights may overheat and pose a risk of fire and shock. On the product is a label bearing the following UL c UL listed, E163392, Working Light, 8f94, On the package :Chicago Electric 500 watt. Halogen Shop Light, item # 30858

Open House Fun Day

Mark May 31 on your calendar for the Yarmouth Fire Department open house fun

day. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Yarmouth fire hall there will be entertainment for the whole family. A BBQ, face painting, yard sale and craft fair, treasure chest, jelly bean

count, sucker pull, pull board for both. Kids and adults rides on the one-third fire truck and pictures with Sparky.

Rain date will be June 14.

Bowling Playoffs

Both “A” and “B” sections have teams with 2 – 0 leads in their final matches. Wedgeport with a 1615 win over East Pubnico 1587 and Carleton #1 1546 over Carleton #2 1425. There are best of 4 of 7. The “C” section has the Ladies wining 4-1 after a close match the Ladies winning 1346 – 1345 over Neptune.

Danny Hennigar 145 was top single. George Larkin rolled a 369 triple

Date in History

May 7 1897 – A new brick engine house at the corner of Alma and First Street was completed and occupied. It has since been demolished and is now a parking lot. Both fire and town policing were housed in this building.

FFM Attendance

With the decreasing attendance over the past several years the Firefighters’ Museum is looking forward to school, nursery, church groups and clubs to make reservations for a visit. The many pictures, artifacts and equipment give a great picture of firefighting over many years. The permanent staff along with the summer help are able to show and explain to a group as they tour the museum. For more information phone 902- 742-5525.

For the hearing impaired: Alarms are available that flash a strobe like light in addition to sounding a sonic alarm. There are also alarms with lower pitched alarm sounds that may be easier for hearing impaired people to hear. Smoke alarms should be installed on every level of your house.
