Cody Peck, a 19-year-old singer from Bear River, is taking a second shot at Canadian Idol.
Last year, he made it through two rounds and he has been working on the strength of his voice, and hopes that this season he will impress producers and judges when he performs at Canadian Idol on March 29.
His familiarity with different styles may hold him in good stead. Though he plays mostly playing popular acoustic music, Peck is open to most styles.
“Sometimes you have to cater to an audience,” he says.
Peck comes from an amazingly musical family. His father Greg Peck and cousin Brad Hewey are successful recording artists, and Cody and another cousin Adam Hewey play together often.
“I didn’t really get interested in music ’til I was 14, but it was always around.”
His younger brother is also an aspiring songwriter. At one time they, with a few others, formed and played in a band ‘The Left Behind’ and sold over 500 CDs.
Peck says that it’s really hard to get bookings as a single act. A recent coffeehouse in Bear River let him play in front of a relatively large audience. He says that it’s hard to play to a few people and keep up the energy required, “and there aren’t many places willing to hire one guy with a guitar.”
The coffeehouse was a standing room only success.
