Columnist continues writing after seven decades

Armand Wigglesworth of Summerville Centre has over 70 decades of experience, as well as life journeys.

Wigglesworth has served almost 50 years in the Canadian Military.

In 1964, Wigglesworth was the Commanding Officer of the 14th Field Regiment, and met the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

In the 1940’s while in the air force he edited two magazines on a volunteer basis for five years, he said.

In 1946 he began working at the Mersey Paper Company as an apprentice electrician, working his way up to superintendent of the Electric and Water Utilities for the Town of Liverpool.

Once moving to Halifax, Wigglesworth became the first General Manager of the Nova Scotia Water Authority in 1963.

In 1976, he moved to Ottawa to start working as the Director of the Federal-Provincial Arrangements.

He later became the Director of Operations for Canada.

As part the job, he worked on a national plan for the 1979 re-entry of the spaceship Skylab.

After working in Ottawa for nine years, Wigglesworth and his wife returned to Queens County.

They “toured the whole damn shore of Nova Scotia,” until they found their home in Summerville Centre, he said.

After retiring in 1983, Wigglesworth became a freelance columnist for The Queens County Advance, which he continues today.

He was also a correspondent for the Halifax Herald, he explained. “I just like writing,” he stated. “So much in this county should be covered.”

The House of Assembly recently recognized Wigglesworth for publishing his sixth book of stories from Queens County.

He said the books are available for purchase at Pharmasave, Primrose Computers, Home Hardware, and Macpherson’s.

Wigglesworth still resides in Summerville Centre today with his wife, Audrey Macdonald.

His two grown children live in Halifax and British Columbia.
