A tentative deal has been reached between the province and about 4,000 CUPE health-care workers who had gone on strike at 6 a.m. Monday morning.

Bargaining talks had been taking place throughout the weekend and all of last night to try and avert a strike.

Pickets lines went up this morning at hospitals in Nova Scotia, but excluding those in the capital district where workers were not part of this labour impasse.

The union is recommending acceptance of the deal to its workers.

Hospitals across the province were to offer reduced services during the strike.

Health-care workers that have been part of these labout negotiations include: licensed practical nurses, laboratory technologists, diagnostic imaging technologists, respiratory therapists, dietitians, social workers, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, continuing care assistants, environmental services staff, food and nutrition services workers, laundry workers, maintenance, etc.

On Sunday, a tentative deal was reached at the bargaining table to avert a strike by about 3,000 school board support workers.
