On Dec. 3, South Queens Junior High School put up a new sign with changeable text.

Topics :
Region of Queens Municipality , South Queens , Liverpool , Waterloo Street

Earlier this fall, Principal Leo Campbell checked with the Region of Queens Municipality about putting up a sign on the school. Staff discovered an old by-law existed that did not allow signs with changeable text in the Liverpool area. However it was also pointed out churches and other organizations technically break the by-law by posting event and service times.

Region council moved quickly, and the by-law was changed on Oct. 20. “Communication is important to us and we are hoping our school sign will be another way to get our message out,” says Campbell. “Last year we updated our website, and along with this sign, the usual newsletters, communication plans or just plain old fashioned phone calls we hope we are reaching the parents/guardians of the students we teach.”

The sign is easily visible as you drive or walk down Waterloo Street.
