At the November 5 annual meeting of the Annapolis Valley Regional School Board, three new members of the board - along with 12 returning members, were sworn in to serve a new four-year term following the Oct. 18 elections.

Lavinia Parrish-Zwicker and Charlene Davies were returned by acclamation to their respective positions of chairwoman and vice-chairwoman of the board. Susan Ritchie was relected for a fourth term as the third member of the executive.

The board’s new Mi’kmaq representative, Tammy Morrison, works in the band office of the Bear River First Nation, where she is active in band affairs. Paul Spicer, who has served on the school board in the past, has kept his involvement with education through extensive school fundraising in the Aylesford area. Retired Acadia education professor Sandy Fraser, brings experience in municipal crisis and critical incident management to the board.

Returning members include Peter Cromwell as the board’s African Nova Scotian Representative, Doug Fraser, Pat Parker and Paula Lunn, representing Hants County schools; Kings County-based members Parrish-Zwicker, Davies, Jackie Foster, Dwight Johnson and Jenny White; Vic Fleury, Ritchie and Bob Tumilty as Annapolis County school representatives.
