Safe grad takes students to Halifax

As graduation draws closer, exams come to an end and Queens County graduates prepare for 12 hours of safe grad activities.

The purpose of safe grad is “to provide a safe venue for post graduation celebrations for students,” said Liverpool Regional High School safe grad staff coordinator, Gerry Mason.

Both Liverpool Regional High School and North Queens Rural High School graduations take place June 26.

The Liverpool graduation begins at 7 p.m.

The Graduation in North Queens starts at 7:30 p.m.

At 10 p.m. the graduation ceremony finish and graduates will scramble onto buses to begin their activity filled night. “We are going to Boston Pizza in Bridgewater and then we’re going to Fair Lanes in the Halifax Shopping Centre,” said NQRHS safe grad staff advisor, Christine Ford.

North Queens Rural High School students will also try their hand at go-karting at Kartbahn and glow in the dark mini golf at Putting Edge.

They will wrap up their safe grad with breakfast at the Dockside Restaurant in Lunenburg. “It’s a lot of fun and for a lot of the students it’s the last opportunity to see their classmates,” said Ford.

She said, out of the 13 graduates, 12 will attend safe grad.

Liverpool Regional High School graduates will partake in similar activities in Halifax.

Grads will eat at Pizza Delight, go to Empire Theatres, Putting Edge, Kartbahn Go-Karting and then off to Citadel Hill.

Then it is off to the Dartmouth Sportsplex with a stop at Exit five for breakfast and snacks.

Mason noted the cost of this years LRHS safe grad is $6,700.

The safe grad committee raised money through raffle, dance, contributions and safe grad fees.

Teachers David White and Jacob Lingley organized the safe grad committee dance and donated their time as DJ’s, added Mason.

Both groups of graduates will return home by 10 a.m. the following morning.
