A bright lick of paint and a few weeds pulled went a long way at the Windsor Forks District School last week when a dozen Kingstec students spent the day sprucing things up during the province wide, “Reach out to Nova Scotia” day.

More than 10,000 Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC) students, staff and faculty from around the province were out in force Oct. 17 giving back to their communities through various projects to show appreciation for support given to the institution. “It’s a big thank-you to the people of Nova Scotia,” said Michael Bennett, who along with Kingstec campus students and instructor Bill House spent the day at school painting classroom doors, play equipment, benches and picnic tables, weeding, and planting trees.

Windsor Forks principal Shelly King said she was so excited to see what one day of work did for their school. “What a difference, it really brightened our school up.”

Students were able to pitch in during recess break, as well, and King said it was a positive partnership. “It was nice to see the students engaged, just them here was encouraging.”

The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board pitched in by supplying the paint and the school purchased the three young trees.
