To the editor:
Prior to French immersion being introduced into the Berwick school curriculum, the Annapolis Valley Region School Board provided a forum of previously educated French immersion students who proclaimed the wonderful experiences that lay within in this program. Then, these families were asked to sign a statement underlining commitment to the program - our compulsion has not wavered.
Both of our children attend Berwick school - one in the English and the other in French, meaining any decision for one program would greatly influence the other.
Usually, significant activities or events that require parent's attention are sent home well in advance to attain favourable results. The school board did not forward any information whatsoever on its proposals to regionalize immersion.
If the lack of educators is the main obstacle, consideration for the devotion these families have provided this French program warrants reciprocation from the school board locating the required educators from New Brunswick or Quebec - a recent prominent school board position was undoubtedly advertised nationally.
I would like to know how many prospective French teachers are presently being pursued for employment next year?
Sincerely,
Colm Kennedy,
Berwick
Look far for French teachers
