Visitors take in pumpkin people workshop, book sale, book launch and much more

The 23rd annual Kentville Harvest Fest in Centre Square Saturday featured a virtual cornucopia of fun family activities, including the Pumpkin People workshop. Dozens of families took part. Participants used the materials and instruction provided to create an army of unique pumpkin people. There was live music, vendors, wagon rides and much more.

In conjunction with Harvest Fest, the Friends of the Kentville Public Library Society held a book sale fundraiser at the Kentville Recreation Centre. Proceeds from the sale will go toward the establishment of a new, state-of-the-art library to serve Kentville and surrounding communities.

Organizers said they are very appreciative of the overwhelming public response to the sale, as people were walking away with bags and boxes full of books. Young Drivers of Canada worked in partnership with the Friends on the fundraiser, helping to deliver the donated books.

There was a great turn out for the official launch of the new children’s book “Pumpkin People” by Sandra and Ron Lightburn, published by Nimbus, at the Kings County Museum in Kentville. This event was held in conjunction with Harvest Fest as well. Ron’s original artwork for the book will remain on display at the museum as part of the “Pumpkin People and a History of Harvest” exhibit until Dec. 15.
