By Carla Allen THE COAST GUARD NovaNewsNow.com The municipal building inspector for Barrington has inspected 28 camps in the Clements Pond and Goose Lake area that are erected on land leased from the municipality.

In his report to council, no significant environmental issues were described other than an inadequate privy that was being addressed and a location where pallets had been placed over a swampy area for four-wheelers to traverse. The municipality is consulting with the Department of Environment to determine the suitability of the temporary bridge.

Earlier this year concern was raised about possible environmental issues with the camps. A motion to increase the number of camp leases issued by the municipality to 40 was tabled at that time.

The annual cost for each 30,000 square foot lot is $250 plus H.S.T. in addition to property taxes. Leaseholders are permitted to put whatever structure they wish on the lot as long as it complies with the building code and are allowed an outside privy. Leases can be passed on to other residents in the municipality but cannot be sold and must be approved by council. There are no roads into the area and they must remove all solid garbage.

Clements Pond is a watershed area in the Municipality of Barrington.
