October 12 to October 18, 2008 continued

 - Phyllis Audrey Best – 86, of Port Williams, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.  Born in Church Street, Kings County, she was the only daughter of the late Horace and Edith (Burbidge) Rand. She farmed along side her husband for many years and was also employed with Prescott House Museum in the opening years. She was the Garment Club Leader for the Cornwallis Project 4-H Club. She was also a life member of the Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia and a member of the Port Williams United Baptist Church. She is survived by her care-giver and niece, Barb (George) West, Church Street; their children, Hugh, Martha and Andrea, all at home, Rachel, Hilden; a sister-in-law, Doris Rand, Port Williams; several additional nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, George; a son, Leonard; three brothers, Keith, Hugh and Eric Rand; two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth and Mildred Rand. There was no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Elizabeth Johnson officiated. Burial took place in the Fox Hill Cemetery, Starr’s Point, Kings County. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Fox Hill Cemetery or the Leonard Best 4-H Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
