Jean Morrison Gillis – 86, formerly of Kentville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 in Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax. Born in Oxford, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Edwin and Mary Hiltz. She was an avid bridge player, a member of the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club and a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. Most of all she was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had a great love for animals and was a kind friend to all who knew her. She is survived by three daughters, Kathy (Harry) Oxner, Dublin Shore, Lunenburg County; Margaret “Peggy” Gillis, Halifax; Barbara Hawkes, Halifax; a brother, John Hiltz, Berwick, Kings County; five grandchildren, Christopher and Terry Oxner, both of Kentville; Paul Schofield, Alberta; Suzanne and Michael Hawkes, Halifax; three great grandchildren, Dana, Fiona and Matthew Purdy, Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband, George; two sisters, Pauline Gregg and Marnie Bethune. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Kentville United Baptist Church or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
