Beatrice H. Meister - It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Beatrice Meister of New Ross. She and her twin sister, Beulah, were born on July 21, 1916 to S. Wilson Freeman and Tempe Melissa (Russell) Freeman of Pleasant River, Nova Scotia. Beatrice was the last surviving member of that family. During her ninety years, she filled many roles. For 56 years she was the wife of the late Rex Meister, New Ross. She was the mother of Karl (Alice) Meister and Robert (Paulette) Meister. For David, Sean, Joseph, Daniel and Amy Meister she was a beloved grandmother, and to dozens of nieces and nephews, she was “Aunt B”. Most of her 32 years as a school teacher were spent in the schools of New Ross, where she also served as a long-time member of the Home and School Association. Throughout her life, her great love was her church work. During her long years of membership in the New Ross Baptist Church, she served on nearly every committee and, most notably, was a faithful Sunday School teacher and superintendent as well as youth group leader and choir member. Within the community she was a tireless volunteer worker and canvasser, and was the recipient of several awards and commendations in recognition of her service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7p.m. to 9p.m. Friday, February 23, 2007. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 24, 2007 in the New Ross United Baptist Church. Reverend David Hine officiated. Burial will take place at a later date in the New Ross United Baptist Church Cemetery. Flowers from the immediate family only. Donations in memory may be made to the New Ross United Baptist Church or the Arthritis Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
